Khadiradi Gulika – Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage

Khadiradi Gulika or Khadiradi Gutika or Khadiradi Vati is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of a tablet. It is used in treating all oral diseases like bad breath, mouth ulcers, toothache, gingivitis, stomatitis, bleeding gum, oral ulcers, a painful infection of teeth and gums, loose tooth, etc…

Ingredients of Khadiradi Gulika

Kashaya Dravya (Material for decoction)

  1. Arimeda (Acacia leucophloea) –  1 tula (4.800 gms)
  2. Khadira (Acacia catechu) – 2 Tula (9.600gms)

Choorna Dravya (powders to be added)

  1. Sevya/Usheera(Vetiveria zizanioides) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  2. Ambu/Hrebera ( Plectranthus vettiveroides) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  3. Pathanga ( Caesalpinia sappan) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  4. Gairikam (Red orche) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  5. Chandanam (Santalum album) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  6. Raktachandana (Pterocarpus santalinus) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  7. Lodhra (Symplocos cochinchinensis var. laurina) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  8. Pundrahwa (Saccharum officinarum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  9. Yasthimadhu ( Glycyrrhiza glabra) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  10. Anjanam (Lead sulphide) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  11. Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  12. Katphala/Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  13. Haridra (Curcuma longa) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  14. Rasanjana (Berberis aristata) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  15. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)  – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  16. Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica)  – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  17. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  18. Elam (Elettaria cardamomum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  19. Twak (Cinnamomum verum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  20. Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  21. Nagakesara (Mesua ferrea) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  22. Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  23. Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  24. Nyagrodhapraroha (Ficus benghalensis) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  25. Duralabha/Yavashaka (Tragia involucrata) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  26. Padmakam (Nelumbo nucifera) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  27. Samangam (Mimosa pudica) – 1 karsha (12 gms)

Patra paka (material added at the end of the preparation)

  1. Lavanga (Syzygium aromaticum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  2. Kankola/Thakolam (Illicium verum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  3. Jathipatri (Myristica fragrans – Mace) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  4. Jatiphalam (Myristica fragrans – Nutmeg) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
  5. Karpoora (Cinnamomum camphora) – 16 karsha (192 gms)

Preparation of Khadiradi Gulika

The decoction is prepared using arimeda bark 1 tula (4.800 gms)2 and khadira sara tula (9.600gms) with 4 ghataka (49.152 gms) of water and boiled and reduced to one fourth. Then this decoction is filtered and kept.

This decoction is heated again till it attains thick in consistency then the powders of the above-said drugs are added and stirred well.

Once the preparation becomes thick in consistency the powdered herbs mentioned to be added at last are added once the vessel is removed out of the fire. Then the pills are rolled out of this mixture and stored for use is known as Khadiradi Vati

Indications of Khadiradi Gulika

  1. Sarvasya roga hara (cures all oral diseases)
  2. Danta Sthirata (firm teeth)

Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvant

The pills are crushed and mixed with warm water/honey/Triphala choorna etc…kept in the mouth. It can also be used for gandusha (holding the medicine inside the mouth for a specific period)
