Ingredients of Ashtakshari Gulika
- Nagaphena/Ahiphena (Papaver somniferum) – 1 part
- Hima dwanda
1. Shweta Chandana (Santalum album) – 1 part
2. Rakta Chandana (Pterocarpus santalis) – 1 part - Ajaji (Cumimum cymimum) – 1 part
- Hingula (purified Cinnabar) – 1 part
- Magadhi/Pippali (Piper longum) – 1 part
- Ramatha/Hingu (Ferula assa-foetida) – 1 part
- Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) – 1 part
- Yukta/Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata) – 1 part
Drava Dravya (Liquid materials)
- Shunti Kashaya (decoction of Zingiber offinalis) – Q.S
- Jeeraka Kashaya (decoction of Cuminum cyminum) – Q.S
- Duspsrsha/Dhanvayasa Kashaya (decoction of Alhagi camelorum) – Q.S
- Mustha Kashaya (decoction of Cyperus rotundus) – Q.S
- Deepyaka(Yavani) Kashaya (decoction of Tracyspermum ammi) – Q.S
- Dhanyaka Kashaya (decoction of Coriandrum sativum) – Q.S
- Jambeera Swarasa (juice of Citrus medica) – Q.S
Preparation of Ashtakshari Gulika
All the ingredients are taken in specific quantity and made fine powder. Then the powders are mixed together and pounded with the decoctions one by one. Once they become semisolid in consistency pills are rolled of one gunja bija (125mg). When they are dried completely they can be stored and used.
Indications of Ashtakshari Gulika
- Grahani – Irritable bowel syndrome
- Arshas – Piles/Hemorrhoids
- Atisara – Diarrhoea
Mode of use, Dosage and Adjuvants
In general it is advised 1 to 2 pills once or twice daily or as advised by the physician (maximum five times a day). It is administered internally along with Dadhi (Curd) or Makshika(Honey) depending on digestive capacity.
