Aparajita Khalam – Ingredients, Uses and Indications

Aparajita Khalam or Aparaajita Khalam is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of a paste. It is used in treating loss of appetite, diarrhea, improves taste, etc…Khalam can be translated as a semisolid state or kind of paste form.

Ingredients of Aparajita Khalam

Materials for making paste:

  1. Maricha (Piper nigrum) – 1 part
  2. Dhanika (Coriandrum sativum) – 1 part
  3. Ajaji (Cuminum cyminum) – 1 part
  4. Tintidaka (Rhus parviflora) – 1 part
  5. Shati (Hedychium spicatum) – 1 part
  6. Bida (a type of Black Salt) – 1 part
  7. Dadima (Punica granatum) – 1 part
  8. Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 1 part
  9. Patha (Cissampelos pareira) – 1 part
  10. Triphala
    1. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – 1 part
    2. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica) – 1 part
    3. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) – 1 part
  11. Panchakola
    1. Pippali (Piper longum)- 1 part
    2. Pippali moola (root of Piper longum) – 1 part
    3. Chavya (Piper retrofractum) – 1 part
    4. Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) – 1 part
    5. Nagara (Zingiber officinale) – 1 part
  12. Yavashooka (Potassii carbonas impura) – 1 part
  13. Kapitha (Limonia accidissima) – 1 part
  14. Amra majja (seed kernel of Mangifera indica) – 1 part
  15. Jambu phala (Syzygium cumini) – 1 part
  16. Deepyaka (Trachyspermum roxburghianum) – 1 part
  17. Bilwa (Aegle marmelos) – 6 parts of the above quantity (132 parts)

Other Ingredients

  1. Dadhi (curd/yogurt)
  2. Mudga rasa (soup of Vigna mungo)
  3. Guda (Jaggery/Saccharum officinarum)
  4. Yamaka Sneha (a mixture of Sesamum indicum oil and cows ghee)

Preparation of Aparajita Khalam

All the ingredients mentioned preparing the paste are taken in a specified quantity. To this mixture, the juice of bilwa is mixed and triturated to make a paste. Then the other liquid ingredients are mixed and mixed well and khala is prepared. Khala can be translated as kalka or paste form. Then it can be stored and used.

  1. Deepana – Carminative
  2. Pachana – Digestive
  3. Grahi – Absorbs liquid
  4. Ruchya – Enhances taste
  5. Bimbishi Sashana – Cures Diarrhoea/Dysentery

Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvants

Aparajita Khalam has advised 5 to 15 gms once or twice daily or as directed by the physician. There are no specific adjuvants mentioned for this preparation.
