Dugdha Vati – Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage
Dugdha Vati is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of vati/pill. It is used in treating inflammatory conditions, edema, anemia, jaundice, etc…This medicine has to be used carefully as it contains visha dravyas (poisonous substances).
Ingredients of Dugdha Vati
- Shodita Amruta/Vatsanabha (purified Aconitum Ferox) – 1 part
- Shodita Dhattura Beeja (purified seeds of Dhattura metal) – 1 part
- Shodita Hingula (purified Cinnabar) – 1 part
Drava dravya (liquid material)

Dhattura patra swarasa (fresh juice of Dhattura metel leaf) – Quantity Sufficient for triturating (Mardana)
Preparation of Dugdha Vati
All the above-said ingredients are taken in the specified quantity after purifying them as mentioned in texts. Then the ingredients are taken in khalwa (grinding stone) and triturated well to become a homogeneous mixture. To the mixture of powder fresh juice of dhatura leaves are added and triturated until it attains the desired consistency. Then the pills are rolled of Mudga pramana (size of a green gram) and dried in shade. Once the pills are dried can be stored and used.

- Nanartha vidha Shotha (different types of swelling or edema or Inflammations)
- Pandu roga (Anemia)
- Kamala (Jaundice)
Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvant
Dugdha Vati is advised 1 – 2 pills once or twice daily or as directed by the physician. It is advised to take along with milk as an adjuvant.
For food, milk mixed with rice is used and milk is used for drinking.
One should avoid using salt and water while taking this medicine.
As this tablet made of using visha dravyas one should be very cautious while using and should be used strictly under medical supervision.
