Dashanga Gulika – Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage

Dashanga Gulika or Dashanga Agada/Dashanga Gutika is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of a pill. It is used in treating insect bite (keeta visha) as mentioned in various ayurvedic texts and also by traditional Kerala vaidyas. As the name suggests it contains 10 drugs among which 9 are herbal and one is mineral.

Ingredients of Dashanga Gulika

  1. Vacha (Acorus calamus)
  2. Hingu (Ferula asafoetida)
  3. Vidanga (Embelia ribes)
  4. Saindhava (rock salt)
  5. Gajapippali (Scindapsus officinalis)
  6. Patha (Cyclea peltata)
  7. Prativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum)
  8. vyosha
    1. Shunti (Zingiber officinale)
    2. Pippali (Piper longum)
    3. Maricha (Piper nigrum)

Preparation of Dashanga Gulika

All the ingredients are taken and crushed to make powder separately. Then the powders are sieved through the cloth and then all the powders are mixed together taking in specific quantity. Water is added to the powder and triturated to make a paste. When the paste becomes thick in consistency the pills are rolled out and dried in shade. The dried pills are stored for use.

Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvants:

In general Dashanga Gulika is advised 1 to 2 pills once or twice daily or as advised by the physician.

As there is no mention of any specific adjuvants warm water can be used as an adjuvant.
