Amrutadi Guggulu or Amrutadi Guggul/Amruta Gulgulu is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of a tablet. It is used in treating various diseases like joint pain, skin diseases, etc.. which has pitta dominance and watery discharges.

Ingredients of Amrutadi Guggulu

Kashaya Dravya (materials for preparing decoction)

  1. Guduchi/Amruta (Tinospora cordifolia) – 1 prastha
  2. Guggulu (Commiphora mukul) – 1/2 prastha
  3. Triphala – 1/2 prastha
    1. Haritaki(Terminalia chebula)
    2. Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica)
    3. Amalaki(Emblica Officinalis)

Prakshepaka Dravyas (powdered drugs)

  1. Danti (Baliospermum montanum) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
  2. Vyosha/Trikatu – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
    1. Shunti (Zingiber officinale)
    2. Maricha (Piper nigrum)
    3. Pippali (Piper longum)
  3. Vidanga (Embelia ribes) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
  4. Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
  5. Trivrit (Operculina turphethum) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)

Preparation of Amrutadi Guggulu:

First, the drugs mentioned for preparing decoction is taken in a specified quantity and crushed to make a coarse powder. Then the decoction is prepared by adding 8 parts of water and reducing it to one-fourth quantity by heating. It is further heated until it attains thick in consistency.

To this other powdered drugs are added in a specified quantity and stirred well. Then this has to be allowed to cool down and tablets are rolled when it is warm itself.

  1. Vatarakta – A variety of joint and skin disorders/?Gout
  2. Kushta – Skin diseases
  3. Gudaja roga – Piles/Haemorrhoids, Fissures
  4. Agnisaada – Impairment of digestive fire
  5. Dushta Vrana – Non-healing ulcers
  6. Prameha – Diabetes
  7. Amavata – A type of joint pain/?Rheumatoid arthritis
  8. Bhaghandhara – Fistula in ano
  9. Nadi roga – Vataja diseases
  10. Adhya vata – Kapha vataja diseases
  11. Shwayathu – Swelling
  12. Sarva roga hara – cures all the diseases

Mode of usage, Dosage, and Adjuvant:

The classical dosage is one karsha pramana (12 gms) depending on agni bala (digestive capacity).

In general, it is advised 1 to 2 tablets once or twice daily or as advised by the physician. This can be used along with other medications like Nimbadi KashayaKhadirarishtaMaha manjishtadi Kashaya, etc…
