Khadirarishta or Khadirarishtam is an ayurvedic alcoholic preparation. It is mainly used in treating various types of skin diseases. Khadira is considered as one of the best drugs to use in skin diseases. Khadirarishta is also indicated for heart diseases, anemia, tumors, cough etc…
Ingredients of Khadirarishta:
Drava dravya (Liquid materials)
- Khadira (Acacia catechu) – 2.4 kg (1/2 tula)
- Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) – 2.4 kg (1/2 tula)
- Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) – 576 grams (12 pala)
- Darvi (Berberis aristata) – 960 g (20 pala)
- Triphala – 960 g (20 pala)
1.Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
2. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)
3. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis)
All the ingredients are crushed and made a coarse powder. Then it is mixed with 8 drona of water (98.304 liters). This mixture is boiled and the liquid contents are reduced to 1 drona ie 12.288 liters and filtered.
Prakshepa dravya ( powders to be added)
- Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 960 g (20 palas)
- Kakkola/Takkola (Piper cubeba) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Nagakeshara (Mesua ferrea)- 48 grams (1 pala)
- Jatiphala (Myristica fragrans) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Lavanga (Syzygium aromaticum) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Ela (Elettaria cardamomum) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) – 48 grams (1 pala)
- Krishna/Pippali (Piper longum) – 192 g (4 pala)
Madhura Dravya (sweetening material)
- Makshika (Honey) – 9.6 kg (2 tula)
- Sharkara (Sugar candy) – 4.8 kg (1 tula)
Khadirarishta Preparation:
The decoction prepare is added to a ghee smeared vessel. Then the fine powders are added along with honey and sugar candy. The vessel is sealed properly and kept for one month. After one month the liquid is filtered and used.

Dosage of Khadirarishta:
- In general, it is advised 15 to 30ml or as advised by the physician.
