Shivakshar Pachan Churna – Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage
Shivakshar Pachan Churna or Shivakshara Pachana Choorna is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of powder. It is used in treating digestive problems, especially in children. It consists of the ingredients of Hinguvastaka choorna, Haritaki and Sarja Kshara. Here Shiva stands for Haritaki. As the name indicates its main action is correcting the Agni, improves digestion, assimilation, and excretion of waste from the body. It also doses the pachana (digests) of Ama (undigested materials).
Ingredients of Shivakshar Pachan Churna
- Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – 1 part
- Ingredients of Hingwastaka choorna
1. Pippali (Piper longum) – 1 part
2. Maricha (Piper nigrum) – 1 part
3. Shunti (Zingiber officinale) – 1 part
4. Ajamoda (Trachyspermum ammi) – 1 part
5. Saindhava (Rock Salt) – 1 part
6. Shweta Jeeraka (Cuminum cyminum) – 1 part
7. Krishna Jeeraka (Carum carvi) – 1 part
8. Ghruta brusta Hingu (ghee fried Ferula asafoetida) – 1 part - Sarja kshara (Sodium carbonate) – 1 part
Preparation of Shivakshar Pachan Churna
All the ingredients are taken in the specified quantity and crushed and powdered separately. The powdered ingredients are taken in equal quantity and mixed. This powder then stored in an airtight container for use.
Indications Shivakshar Pachan Churna
- Vayu Vaishamya (vitiation of Vata)
- Ajeerna (indigestion)
- Admana (distention of abdomen)
- Chardi (vomiting)
- Agnimandya (decrease digestive power)
- Aruchi (tastelessness)
- Shoola (pain)
- Krimi (worm infestation)
- Mala rodha (constipation/hard stools)
- Ajeerna janya shoola (abdomen pain due to indigestion)
Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvant
In general, it is advised 3 to 6 gms once or twice daily or as directed by the physician. This should be used cautiously as it contains sarja kshara.
