Valiya Arimedas Tailam – Ingredients, Uses, Dosage
Valiya Arimedas Thailam or Valiya Arimedas Tailam or Arimedas Tailam(Big) is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of medicated oil. It is used in treating Toothache, a painful infection of teeth and gums, loose tooth – can be used for gandusham and nasyam. It is said that it can cure all the diseases related to the mouth. It has almost all the qualities of Arimedadi Thailam.
Ingredients of Valiya Arimedas Thailam
The ingredients are taken from the earlier verse mentioned in the same chapter for Khadiradi Gulika.
Sneha Dravya (Oil material)
- Thila Thaila (oil of Sesamum indicum) – 1 adaka (3.072 kgs)
Drava dravya (Liquid materail)

- Arimeda (Acacia leucophloea) – 2 tula (9.600gms)
- Khadira (Acacia catechu) – 1 tula (4.800 gms)
Kalka Dravya (Materials for making the paste)
- Sevya/Usheera(Vetiveria zizanioides) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Ambu/Hrebera ( Plectranthus vettiveroides) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Pathanga ( Caesalpinia sappan) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Gairikam (Red orche) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Chandanam (Santalum album) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Raktachandana (Pterocarpus santalinus) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Lodhra (Symplocos cochinchinensis var. laurina) – 1 karsha (12 gms)
- Pundrahwa (Saccharum officinarum) – 1 karsha (12 gms)

Preparation of Valiya Arimedas Thailam
The decoction is prepared taking arimeda bark 2 tula (9.600gms) and khadira sara 1 tula (4.800 gms) with 4 ghataka (49.152 gms) of water and boiled and reduced to one fourth. Then this decoction is filtered and kept.
This decoction is mixed with the paste prepared by the drugs mentioned for making the paste along with the sesame oil and boiled to prepare the thaila.
Once the thaila is prepared it should be filtered and karpoora is added as at the last and stored for the usage.

- Sarvasya roga hara (cures all oral diseases)
- Danta Sthirata (firm teeth)
Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvant
Valiya Arimedas Thailam is used as nasal administration (nasya), Pana (internal consumption), gandusha ( keeping in mouth), enema (vasti) and abhyanga according to the ayurvedic texts, but mostly is used for abhyanga/Shiro abhyanga, gandusha.
It is said to be more potent than Arimedadi Thailam.
