Rohitakasava

Rohitakasava or Rohitakasavam is an ayurvedic alcoholic preparation. It is mainly used in diseases where the spleen is involved like splenomegaly, pain etc… It is also indicated in chest pain, abdominal pain due to constipation, anorexia etc….

Ingredients of Rohitakasava

Madhura Dravya (Sweetening substances)

  1. Guda/Jaggery – 200 pala (9.600 kgs)

Drava Dravya (Liquid Material)

  1. Rohitaka – 1 tula/100 pala (4.800 kgs)

Prakshepaka dravyas (Powders to be added)

  1. Dhataki pushpa – 16 pala (768 gms)
  2. Trijataka
    1. Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) – 1 pala (48gms)
    2. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum) – 1 pala (48gms)
    3. Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) – 1 pala (48gms)
  3. Panchakola
    1. Pippali (Piper longum) – 1 pala (48gms)
    2. Pippali moola (root of Piper longum) – 1 pala (48gms)
    3. Chavya (Piper Chaba) – 1 pala (48gms)
    4. Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) – 1 pala (48gms)
    4. Nagara (Zingiber officinale) – 1 pala (48gms)

Preparation of Rohitakasava

Rohitaka is cooked in 4 drona (49.152 liters) of water and when reduced to 1 drona (12.288 liters). Then all the decoction and the other ingredients mentioned in specified quantity are mixed together and transferred into ghee smeared vessel. Then the vessel is sealed properly and kept underground for 15 days for the fermentation process. After this period it is taken out filtered and used.

  3. Pleeha shola (Pain in Splen)
  4. Hrudayashoola (Pain in Heart)
  5. Parshwa shoola (Pain in flanks)
  6. Sarva Arochaka (All types of anorexia) 
  7. Vibhandha Shoola (pain abdomen due to constipation)
  8. Pandu (Anemia)
  9. Kamala (Jaundice)
  10. Chardi (Vomiting)
  11. Atisara (Diarrhea)
  12. Jeerna Jwara (chronic fever)

The dose of Rohitakasava:

In general 15 to 30 ml once or twice in a day or as directed by the physician.
