Lodhrasava or Lodhrasavam is an ayurvedic Alcoholic preparation. It is used in treating diabetes and its complication. Its also used in treating Piles, anorexia, Anemia, Skin diseases, Leucoderma, digestive diseases etc…

Ingredients of Lodhrasava

Madhura Dravya (Sweetening substance):

  1. Makshika/Madhu (Honey) – 2 prastha (1.536 kg)

Drava Dravya (Liquid material)

  1. Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  2. Murva (marsdenia tenacissima) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  3. Shati (Hedychium spicatum) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  4. Vella/Vidanga (Embelia ribes) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  5. Bharngi (Clerodendron serratum) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  6. Nata/Tagara ( (Valeriana wallichi) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  7. Nakha (Capparis sepiaria) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  8. Plava/Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  9. Kalinga (seeds of Holarrhena antidysenterica) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  10. Kushta (Saussurea lappa) – 1 karsha (12 g)
  11. Kramuka/betelnut  (Acacia catechu) – 1 karsha (12 g)

Preparation of Lodhrasava:

All the above-said ingredients are taken in specified quantity. The ingredients are mixed with 1 drona (12.288 liters) of water and boiled. The decoction is prepared by reducing the water content to 1/4 of the quantity (3.072 liters).

Then the decoction is added with the specified quantity of Honey and transferred to a ghee smeared earthen vessel. The vessel has to be sealed properly and kept in an airtight room for the fermentation process. After 1 paksha (15 days) the vessel has to be opened and the contents are filtered for the use.

  9. Sthoulya (obesity)

Dosage of Lodhrasava

In general, Lodhrasava is advised 15 – 30ml twice per day or as directed by the physician.
