Indukantham Ghritam– Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage
Indukantham ghritam is an ayurvedic medicinal preperation in the form of Ghee. It is used in treating various vata predominant diseases, phthisis, ascites, abdominal tumors,vata associated with bronchial diseases, pain, intermittent fevers, rheumatic problems, diseases of the digestive tract, neurological diseases, respiratory diseases, gastritis, etc… It increases the digestive process and absorptive capacity of the intestine. It is used as a preventive medication for any infectious communicable diseases.

Kashaya dravya’s (materials for preparing decoction)
- Putika/ Puti karanja (Holoptelea integrifolia) – 0.869 gms
- Daru/ Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) – 0.869 gms
- Dashamoola
- Bilva (Aegle marmelos) – 0.869 gms
- Agnimantha (Premna mucronata) – 0.869 gms
- Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicium) – 0.869 gms
- Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) – 0.869 gms
- Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens) – 0.869 gms
- Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum) – 0.869 gms

- Ghrita (cows ghee) – 11.130 ml
Preperation of Indukantham ghritam
Al the ingredients for the decoction are taken in the specified quantity and the decoction is prepared using the decoction preparation method. Then the decoction is filtered and added with cow’s milk, ghee, and medicated paste prepared using the ingredients mentioned for the paste. All the ingredients are mixed together and heated till it attains proper consistency. Once the ghrita is prepared it can be stored for use.

- Vata roga (vata predominant diseases)
- Kshaya (phthisis)
- Mahodara (abdominal enlargement)
- Gulma (abdominal tumors)
- Shoola (pain)
- Nimnonnata jwara (intermitent fever)
- Bala vardhana (increases immunity/strength)
Mode of use, Dosage, and Adjuvants
Indukantham ghritam is used for internal administration and generally advised 2ml – 30ml with suitable adjuvants once or twice daily or as advised by the physician. It is used for both palliative and purificatory purposes.
Pediatric dosage will be decided by the physician.
