Amrutarishta or Amrutarishtam is an Ayurvedic medicine used in treating all types of fever. It can be used along with other medication like Sudarshana Gulika, Vilwadi Gulika in different types of fevers.
Ingredients of Amrutarishta
Madhura Dravya (sweetening ingredient)
- Guda/Jaggery – 3 tola- 14.4 kg
Drava dravya (ingredients for decoction)
- Amrita (Tinospora cordifolia) 100 palas – 4.8 kg
- Dashamoola – 100 palas – 4.8 kg
1. Bilva (Aegle marmelos)
2. Agnimantha (Premna mucronata)
3. Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicum)
4. Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens)
5. Gambhari (Gmelina arborea)
6. Brihati (Solanum indicum)
7. Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum)
8. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris)
9. Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum)
10. Prishnaparni (Uraria picta) - Jala/Water -4 drona – 49.152 lit
All the ingredients added along with the water and boiled. The liquid quantity has to be reduced to 1 drona.
Prakshepa Dravya
- Ajaji/Shweta Jeeraka (Cuminum cyminum) – 16 palas – 768 g
- Parpataka (Fumaria parviflora) – 2 pala – 96 g
- Saptacchada ( Alstonia scholaris) – 1 pala – 48 g
- Shunti (Zingiber officinale) – 1 pala – 48 g
- Maricha (Piper nigrum) – 1 pala – 48 g
- Pippali (Piper longum) – 1 pala – 48 g
- Nagakeshara (Mesua ferrea ) -1 pala – 48 g
- Musta (Cyperus rotundus) -1 pala – 48 g
- Katuki (Picrorrhriza kurroa) -1 pala – 48 g
- Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) -1 pala – 48 g
- Indrayava (seeds of Holarrhena antidysenterica) -1 pala – 48 g
Method of preparation :
Prepare the kashya using the ingredients for decoction. When the decoction cools down add the other ingredients with the mentioned quantity. This has to be transferred to an earthen vessel and sealed well. After a month this has to be taken and the liquid is filtered and used.
The dosage of Amrutarishta
The general adult dose is 15 – 30 ml or as prescribed by the doctor

- Sarva Jwara – in all types of fever.
1. Nava Jwara – early stages of fever
2. Jeerana Jwara – chronic fever
3. Vishama Jwara – intermittent fever
4. Pittaja Jwara – Pitta predominant fever
5. Dhatugata Jwara – fever in various dhatus
6. Sutika Jwara – post natal fever
6. Sankramika Jwara – epidemic fever.
