Agasthya Rasayanam or Agastya Haritaki Rasayanam is also known as Agasthya Rasayana or Agastya Haritaki Rasayana is an Ayurvedic medicinal linctus. It is formulated by great sage named Agastaya and is consdered as the best Rejuvenator. It is used in treating various conditions like Hair Fall, cough, dyspnoea, hiccups, irregular fevers, heart diseases etc…. It also works as a rejuvenator, enhances the complexion etc…

Ingredients of Agasthya Rasayanam

Madhura Dravya (Sweetening substances)

  1. Guda (Jaggery) – 1 tula (4.800 gms)
  2. Madhu (Honey) – 1 kudava (192gms)

Drava Dravya (Liquid Materials)

  1. Thila Thailam (Sesame Oil) – 1 Kudava (192ml)
  2. Ghrutam (Cows Ghee) – 1 Kudava (192ml)

Kashaya Dravya (Decoction materails)

  1. Dashamoola
    1. Bilwa (Aegle marmelos) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    2. Agnimantha (Premna obtusifolia) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    3. Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    4. Shyonaka (Oroxylum Indicum) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    5. Pathala (Stereospermum suaveolens) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    6. Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    7. Prushnaparni (Uraria picta) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    8. Bruhati (Solanum Indicum) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    9. Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpous) – 2 pala(96 grams)
    10. Gokshura (Tribulus Terrestris) – 2 pala(96 grams)

Praksepaka Dravya (Materials to be added at the end)

  1. Pippali Choorna (powder of Piper longum) – 1 kudava (192gms)
  2. Haritaki (Terminalia Chebula) – 1 kudava (192gms)

Preparation of Agasthya Rasayanam :

All the ingredients are taken in the specified quantity and boiled. When Yava becomes well cooked Haritaki is taken out of the decoction, and again cooked with 1 tula of guda.

Later the Haritaki is fried with One kudava of Ghruta and Thila Thaila each till the pulp turns golden brown. Then the pulp of haritaki is added to the decoction and heat it till it attains thick consistency like a linctus.

Once it is removed out and cooled powders of Pippali and Haritaki are added along with Honey.

Indication of Agasthya Rasayanam

  1. Vali – wrinkles
  2. Palita – untimely greying of hairs
  3. Varna ayu bala vardhana – bestows colour, lifespan and strength
  4. Panchakasa – cures the five types of cough
  5. Kshaya – Debility
  6. Shwasa – Dyspnoea
  7. Hidhma/Hikka – Hiccup
  8. Vishama jwara– Intermittent fever
  9. Meha/Prameha – Diabetes
  10. Gulma – Abdominal tumours
  11. Grahani -Irritable bowel syndrome
  12. Arshas – Haemorrhoids/Piles
  13. Hrudroga – diseases of the heart
  14. Aruchi – Anorexia
  15. Peenasa – Nasal catarrh

Dosage and Adjuvant:

In general it is advised 5 to 20 gms once or twice daily or as directed by the physician.

How to use Agasthya Rasayanam:

According to the text it is advised to consume two haritaki size per day.
