Trivrit lehyam – Ingredients, Indication, and Dosage
Trivrit lehyam or Thrivrut lehyam/Trivrulleham is an ayurvedic jam preparation. It is used mainly to expel the doshas through purgation. This lehyam is also known as Hridya Virechanam Leham.
Ingredients of Trivrit lehyam
Kashaya Dravya (material for decoction)
- Trivrit (Operculina turpethum)
Kalka Dravya (material for making the paste)
- Trivrit (Operculina turpethum)
Madhura Dravya (sweetening substances)
- Sita (sugar candy)
- Madhu (honey)
Prakshepa Dravya ( powders to be added at last)
- Trijata
1. Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
2. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum)
3.Patra (Cinnamomum tamala)
Preparation of Trivrit lehyam
The decoction is prepared using Trivrit. To the decoction, the paste of trivrit along with sugar candy is added and heated till it becomes thick semisolid in consistency. The powders of trijata are added at last and stirred well. When it cools down can be stored and used.
Indication of Trivrit lehyam
- Virechana
Though it is mainly used for the purgative procedure it is also used in cardiac diseases, constipation, pitta predominant diseases.
Dosage of Trivrit lehyam
In general 5 to 20 gms per day once or twice daily or as directed by the physician along with a suitable adjuvant.
