Kushmanda Rasayana – Ingredients, Uses, and Dosage
Kushmanda Rasayana or Kushmandaka Rasayana is an ayurvedic jam preparation. It is said to be prepared by Gods physicians Ashwini Kumars. It is used in treating cough, hiccup, fever, breathing difficulties, bleeding disorders, chest injury, depletive diseases etc… Kushmanda Rasayana also helps in increasing memory power, intellect, strength and good for the heart.
Ingredients of Kushmanda Rasayana
- Kushmanda (Benincasa hispida) – 1 Tula (4.800 kgms)
Madhura Dravya (Sweetening substances)
- Madhu – 1/2 Prastha (384 gms)
- Khanda Sitha – 100 pala (4.800 kgms)
Drava dravya (Liquid material)
- Ghrutam (Cows Ghee) – 1 Prastha (768 gms)
Praskepa Choorna (powders to be added)
- Kana/Pippali (Piper longum) – 2 pala (96 gms)
- Shunti (Zingiber Officinale) – 2 pala (96 gms)
- Jeeraka (Cuminum cyminum )- 2 pala (96 gms)
- Trijata
1.Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanica) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
2. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
3. Patra (Cinnamomum Tamala) – 1/2 pala (24 gms) - Dhanyaka (Coriandrum sativum) – 1/2 pala (24 gms)
- Maricha (Piper nigrum)- 1/2 pala (24 gms)
Preparation of Kushmanda Rasayana
Kushmanda (Benincasa hispida) is cut into small pieces after removing its skin and seeds should be baked in steam. Then it should be fried using ghee till it attains the color of the Honey.
Then sugar candy is added along with other powders in a specified quantity and should be stirred well. When it cools down honey and ghee are to be added and mixed well and stored.

- Bala kara (Increases strength)
- Hrudya (Good for the heart)
The dosage of Kushmanda Rasayana
In general 10 to 20 gms once or twice a day or as directed by the physician.
