Hridya Virechanam Leham – Ingredients, Indication and Dosage
Hridya Virechanam Leham or Hrudya Virechana Lehyam is an ayurvedic jam preparation. It is used mainly to expel the doshas through purgation. As it is good for the heart, it is also the reason why it is named as Hridya Virechanam Leham. This lehyam is also known popularly as Trivrit Lehyam.
Ingredients of Hridya Virechanam Leham
Kashaya Dravya (material for decoction)
- Trivrit (Operculina turpethum)
Kalka Dravya (material for making the paste)
- Trivrit (Operculina turpethum)
Madhura Dravya (sweetening substances)
- Sita (sugar candy)
- Madhu (honey)
Prakshepa Dravya ( powders to be added at last)
- Trijata
1. Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
2. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum)
3.Patra (Cinnamomum tamala)
Preparation of Hridya Virechanam Leham
The decoction is prepared using Trivrit. To the decoction, the paste of trivrit along with sugar candy is added and heated till it becomes thick semisolid in consistency. The powders of trijata are added at last and stirred well. When it cools down can be stored and used.
Indication of Hridya Virechanam Leham
- Virechana
Though it is mainly used for the purgative procedure it is also used in cardiac diseases, constipation, pitta predominant diseases.
Dosage of Hridya Virechanam Leham
In general 5 to 20 gms per day once or twice daily or as directed by the physician along with a suitable adjuvant.
