Guggulwasava or Guggulwasavam/GULGULWASAVAM is an ayurvedic alcoholic medicinal preparation. It is used in treating abdominal diseases, splenic diseases, Jaundice, Asthma, cough, edema etc….

Ingredients of Guggulwasava: 

  1. Hareetaki (Terminalia chebula) – 4.8 kg (100 pala)
  2. Vibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) – 4.8 kg (100 pala)
  3. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) – 768 grams (1 prastha)
    196 grams of each of
  4. Guggulu (Commiphora mukul) 4 palas (196 grams)
  5. Twak (Cinnamum zeylanicum) 4 palas (196 grams)
  6. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum) 4 palas (196 grams)
  7. Pippali moola (root of Piper longum) 4 palas (196 grams)
  8. Chavya (Piper retrofractum) 4 palas (196 grams)
  9. Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) 4 palas (196 grams)
  10. Deepyaka/Ajamoda (Trachyspermum ammi) 4 palas (196 grams)
  11. Talisapatra(Abies Webbiana) 4 palas (196 grams)
  12. Trikatu – 4 palas (196 grams)
    1. Shunti (Zingiber officinale)
    2. Maricha(Piper nigrum)
    3. Pippali(Piper longum)
  13. Musta (Cyperus rotundus) 4 palas (196 grams)
  14. Kesara (Mesua ferrea) 4 palas (196 grams)
  15. Katphala (Myrica nagi) 4 palas (196 grams)

Method of preparation:

All the above-mentioned ingredients are taken and added to 1 drona of jala (12.288 liters). This mixture is boiled and reduced to 1/4 quantity 1e 3.072 liters.

Prakshepa Dravya (materials to be added at last)

  1. Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 768 grams (1 prasta)
  2. Guda (2 shata pala) – 9.6 kg
  3. Draksha (Vitis vinifera) 10 pala (480 grams)
  4. Dadima (Punica granatum) 10 pala (480 grams)

All the ingredients are mixed with Ikshu rasa ( sugarcane juice) after observing the color, aroma, and taste. This mixture is kept sealed for 6 months. Then it is filtered is used.

Indications of Guggulwasava:

  1. Udara (Ascites, Abdominal disorders)
  2. Pleeha roga (Diseases of Spleen)
  3. Urusthambha (Stiffness of the thigh)
  4. Kamala (Jaundice)
  5. Shwasa (Asthma and other breathing disorders)
  6. Kasa (Cough)
  7. Shopha (Edema)
  8. Bhagandhara (Anal fissure, fistula)
  9. Krimi (Worms)
  10. Kushta (Skin diseases)
  11. Prameha (Diabetes)
  12. Agni Deepana (Improves digestive power)

Dose of  Guggulwasava:

  1. 15 to 30 ml or as directed by the physician. It is said to be given pragbhakta(before food), madhyabhakta(between food), grasa (with each morsel of food), grasantara (after each morsel of food) considering Vaya (age of the person) and satmya (adjustability).
