Vidaryadi Yamakam – Ingredients, Uses and, Dosage

Vidaryadi Yamakam is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of oil. It is prepared by using vidaryadi gana drugs along with sesame oil and ghee. It has almost all the properties of the vidaryadi gana and used in treating phthisis, chronic bronchitis, emaciation, spasmodic dyspepsia and all diseases caused by vata and pitta. It can also increase body weight and thus helps in weight gain. Other indications are its an excellent cardiac tonic, nourishes the tissues, cures wasting disease, tumors of the abdomen, body aches, breathing difficulty, cough, etc.

Vidaryadi Yamakam is used as an external application.

Ingredients of Vidaryadi Yamakam

Sneha Dravya (Oil substances) :

  1. Thila thaila (oil of Sesamum indicum) – 2 parts
  2. Ghruta (Cows ghee/Clarified butter) – 2 parts

Drava Dravya (Liquid material)

  1. Jala (water) – 16 parts

Kalka Dravya (Material for preparing paste) – 1 part

  1. Vidari (Pueraria tuberosa)
  2. Eranda moola (root of Ricinus communis)
  3. Vruchikali (Heliotropium indicum)
  4. Vruschiva/Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa)
  5. Devahwaya/Devadaru (Cedrus deodara)
  6. Masha parni (Vigna radiata)
  7. Mudga Parni (Dysolobium pilosum)
  8. Kandukari/Kapikacchu (Mucuna pruriens)
  9. Jeevana Panchamoola
    1. Abhiru/Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus)
    2. Veera/Kakoli (Roscoea purpurea)
    3. Jeevanti (Leptadenia Reticulata)
    4. Jeevaka (Microstylis muscifera)
    5. Rushabhaka (Microstylis wallichii)
  10. Laghu Panchamoola
    1. Brahati (Solanum indicum)
    2. Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum)
    3. Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum)
    4. Prishnaparni (Uraria picta)
    5. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris)

Preparation of Vidaryadi Yamakam

A suitable vessel is taken and the Kalka (paste) and Drava (water) are mixed initially. To this, the ghee and sesame oil is added and boiled. It should be stirred continuously so that the paste is not allowed to adhere to the vessel.

When all the liquid material have evaporated the paste is taken out and tested from time to time to know the condition of the preparation. When it attains proper paka it is taken out and allowed to cool down. Once it cooled it can be stored and used.

  2. Bhrumhana (nourishes the tissues)
  3. Vata Pitta hara (useful in the vata and pitta predominant conditions)
  4. Shosha (wasting diseases)
  5. Gulma (abdominal tumors)
  6. Angamarda (body aches)
  7. Urdhwa Shwasa (variety of breathing difficulty)
  8. Kasa hara (cures cough)

Dosage and Adjuvant:

Vidaryadi Yamakam is used as an external application.
