Vidaryadi Kashayam – Ingredients, Uses and, Dosage

Vidaryadi Kashayam or Vidaryadi Kashaya is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of decoction. It is mainly used in treating vata predominant or Vata Pitta prevailing conditions. It can also increase body weight and thus helps in weight gain. Other indications are its an excellent cardiac tonic, nourishes the tissues, cures wasting disease, tumors of the abdomen, body aches, breathing difficulty, cough, etc.

Vidaryadi Kashaya is prepared by using the ingredients of Vidarayadi gana drugs mentioned in Shodanadi sangarahaniya chapter of Astanga sangraha sutra stana.

Ingredients of Vidaryadi Kashaya :

  1. Vidari (Pueraria tuberosa)
  2. Eranda moola (root of Ricinus communis)
  3. Vruchikali (Heliotropium indicum)
  4. Vruschiva/Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa)
  5. Devahwaya/Devadaru (Cedrus deodara)
  6. Masha parni (Vigna radiata)
  7. Mudga Parni (Dysolobium pilosum)
  8. Kandukari/Kapikacchu (Mucuna pruriens)
  9. Jeevana Panchamoola
    1. Abhiru/Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus)
    2. Veera/Kakoli (Roscoea purpurea)
    3. Jeevanti (Leptadenia Reticulata)
    4. Jeevaka (Microstylis muscifera)
    5. Rushabhaka (Microstylis wallichii)
  10. Laghu Panchamoola
    1. Brahati (Solanum indicum)
    2. Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum)
    3. Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum)
    4. Prishnaparni (Uraria picta)
    5. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris)
  11. Gopasuta/Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus)
  12. Tripadi/Hamsaraja (Desmodium triflorum)

All ingredients are taken in equal quantity.

Preparation of Vidaryadi Kashayam

All the above-specified ingredients are taken in prescribed quantity in a vessel. Water is added eight times to the whole ingredients and boiled. When the decoction is reduced to one-fourth quantity of the water, it is filtered and used.

Indications of Vidaryadi Kashayam

  1. Hrudya (good for the heart)
  2. Bhrumhana (nourishes the tissues)
  3. Vata Pittaha (good in the vata and pitta predominant conditions)
  4. Shosha (wasting diseases)
  5. Gulma (abdominal tumors)
  6. Angamarda (body aches)
  7. Urdhwa Shwasa (variety of breathing difficulty)
  8. Kasa hara (cures cough)

Dosage and Adjuvant:

In general 5 to 15 ml once or twice daily with three times of boiled and cooled water or as directed by the physician.
