Manjishtadi Thailam – Ingredients, Uses and Dosage

Manjishtadi Thailam or Manjishtadi Oil is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation in the form of oil. It is used diseases related to head like headache, insomnia, burning neuropathy and ophthalmic diseases. It is used as an external application. It has a cooling effect on the body and induces good sleep.

Ingredients of Manjishtadi Thailam

Sneha Dravya (oil material)

  1. Thila thaila (Sesamum indicum) – 1 prastha (768 ml)

Drava Dravya (liquid material)

  1. Kumari Swarasa  (Aloe vera) – 4 prastha (3072 ml)
  2. Ksheera (cows milk) – 4 prastha (3072 ml)

Kalaka Dravya (materials for making the paste)

  1. Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  2. Anjana (Antimony) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  3. Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  4. Abda/Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  5. Katuka (Picrorhiza kurrooa) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  6. Takkola (Illicium verum) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  7. Jatiphala (Myristica fragrans) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  8. Shrikanda/Chandana (Santalum album) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  9. Triphala
    1. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – 1 tola (12 gms)
    2. Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica) – 1 tola (12 gms)
    3. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) – 1 tola (12 gms)
  10. Jata/Jatamamsi (Nardostachys jatamansi) – 1 tola (12 gms)

Patrapaka dravya (material to be added at last)

  1. Karpoora (Cinnamomum camphora) – 1 tola (12 gms)

Preparation of Manjishtadi Thailam

All the above-said ingredients are taken in the specified quantity and mixed together. This mixture is heated till it attains proper thaila paka. Once the oil attains proper paka then it should be allowed to cool down. Then the oil is filtered and stored for use. Karpoora is added after filtering the oil.

Indications of Manjishtadi Thailam

  1. Netra Roga (eye disorders)
  2. Shiroroga (disorders of the head)

Mode of use and Dosage:

Manjishtadi Thailam is used as an external application.
