Kutaja Lehyam – Ingredients, Preparation, and Indications
Kutaja Lehyam or Kutaja Leha is an ayurvedic medicine. It is used in treating diarrhea with bleeding, Bleeding Piles and any bleeding conditions (raktapitta).
Ingredients of Kutaja Lehyam
- Kutaja twak (bark of Holarrhena antidysentrica) – 1 Tula (4.800kgs)
- Samanga (Mimosa pudica) – 1 fistful
- Phalini (Callicarpa macrophylla) – 1 fistful
- Mocharasa (Salmalia malabarica) – 1 fistful
- Shakrayava (kutaja beeja) – seeds of Holarrhena antidysentrica – 3 fistful
Preparation of Kutaja Lehyam
One Tula of kutaja bark is taken and 16 times of water is added. This is boiled in mild flame and the decoction is reduced to 1/4.
To this decoction, the powders of Samanga, Phalini, and Mocharasa powders are added in one musti (1 fistful)/?1 pala and Shakrayava is added to the combined quantity of the other drugs (ie 3 fistfuls).
Then this mixture is heated till it attains a semisolid state and allowed to cool down. Once it cools it can be stored and ready for usage.

- Raktatisara (Diarrhea with bleeding)
- Raktarsha (Bleeding Piles)
- Raktapitta (Bleeding disorders)
How to use Kutaja Lehyam?
Kutaja Lehyam is advised depending on the digestive capacity of the patient along with adjuvants like Peya (thin gruel), Manda(watery gruel), Chaga paya (Goats milk) or Goksheera (cows milk).
During consumption of Kutaja Lehyam only goats milk has to be taken as food.
Dosage of Kutaja Lehyam:
In general 10 to 20 gms once or twice a day or As directed by the physician.
