Kayyanyadi Thailam – Ingredients, Uses and Dosage
Kayyanyadi Thailam or Kayyanyadi oil is an ayurvedic medicinal preparation. Its also known as kayyonyadi tailam, Kayyunniadi taila, Kanjunniadi taila. It is used in eye problems, dental problems, premature graying and falling of hair, head and neck diseases.
Ingredients of Kayyanyadi Thailam
Drava dravya (liquid materials)
- Kayyonni/Bhringaraja (Eclipta prostrata) – 13.333g
- Chiitamruta/Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) – 13.333g
- Nelli/Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica) – 13.333g
- Ksheera (cows milk) – 10.000ml
Kalka Dravya (materials for making the paste)
- Yasthimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – 0.622 g
- Anjana (Antimony) – 0.052g
Sneha Dravya (oil material)
- Thila Thaila (Sesamum indicum) – 10.000ml
Prakshepa dravya (materials added at last)
- Karpoora (Cinnamomum camphora) – 0.044 g
Preparation of Kayyanyadi Thailam
All the above-specified ingredients are taken in a prescribed quantity. The fresh juices of bhringaraja, Amalaki and Guduchi are taken in a vessel. To this mixture cows milk, coconut oil and paste of yasthimadhu and Anjana are added. Then it is heated till it attains proper paka. Once the oil is prepared it can be filtered and karpoora is added and stored for use.
Indication of Kayyanyadi Thailam
- Netra roga (eye diseases)
- Shiro roga (diseases related to head)
- Dantaroga (diseases of the tooth)
- Palitya (premature greying of hair)
It has a cooling effect but less compared to Bhringamalaka Thailam
Mode of Use and Dosage:
Kayyanyadi Thailam is used as an external application to the scalp.

Kayyanyadi Kerathailam
Kayyanyadi Kerathailam or Kayyanyadi keratailam is also prepared with similar ingredients and procedure. The only difference between Kayyanyadi Thailam and Kayyanyadi Kerathailam is the oil used for preparation. For Kayyanyadi Kerathailam the coconut oil is used and thila thaila is used for Kayyanyadi Thailam.
