Babbularishta

Babbularishta or Babbularishtm is an ayurvedic Alcoholic preparation. It is also known as Babularishta and used in treating Skin diseases, diarrhea, diabetes, breathing difficulties, cough etc….

Ingredients of  Babularishta

Drava dravya (Liquid material)

  1. Babbula Twak (bark of Acacia arabica) – 2 Tulaa/200 palas ( 9.6 kgs)
  2. Jala(Water) – 4 drona (49.152 litrs)

Madhura Dravya (Sweetening substance)

  1. Guda (Jaggery) – 1 tula (4.8 kgs)

Prakshepa Dravya (Powders to be added)

  1. Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa) – 16 palas (768 gms)
  2. Krishna/Pippali (Piper longum) – 2 palas (96 gms)
  3. Jatiphala (Piper cubeba ) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  4. Kankola ( Piper cubeba) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  5. Ela (Elettaria cardamomum) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  6. Twak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  7. Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  8. Nagakeshara (Mesua ferrea) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  9. Lavanga (Syzygium aromaticum) – 1 Pala (48 gms)
  10. Maricha (Piper nigrum) – 1 Pala (48 gms)

Preparation of Babbularishta:

All the ingredients are taken in specified quantity. First Babbula is coarsely powdered and the decoction is prepared.

To the decoction, all the other ingredients are added and transferred to an earthen ghee smeared pot. Then the pot is sealed properly and kept for one month in a closed place.

After a month time, the vessel is opened and the liquid is filtered for use.

  1. Kshaya (Depletive diseases, Tuberculosis)
  2. Kusta (Skin diseases)
  3. Atisara (Diarrhoea)
  4. Prameha (Diabetes)
  5. Shwasa (Breathing difficulties)
  6. Kasa (Cough

Mode of use :

Babbularishta is used internally 15 to 30 ml as a general dose for an adult or as directed by the physician.
