
Navakarshika Kashaya or Navakarshika Kashayam is an ayurvedic decoction preparation. It consists of two words ie ‘Nava’ means nine and Kasrsha is an ayurvedic measurement of weight. When all these ingredients are together taken in 1 karsha each quantity, the total becomes Nava karsha hence the name of the formulation has come as Navakarshika kashaya. Navakarshika Kashaya is used to treat Skin diseases, leprosy, gout etc….
Ingredients of Navakarshika Kashaya
- Triphala
1. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) – 1 karsha
2. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica) – 1 karsha
3. Amalaki(Emblica officinalis) – 1 karsha - Nimba (Azadirachta indica) – 1 karsha
- Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) – 1 karsha
- Vacha (Acorus calamus) – 1 karsha
- Katuki (Picrorhiza kurroa) – 1 karsha
- Vatsdani/Guduchi- (Tinospora cordifolia) – 1 karsha
- Daruharidra (Berberis aristata)- 1 karsha
Preparation of Navakarshika Kashaya
All the ingredients are taken in specified quantity. All the ingredients are mixed with 16 times of water and reduced to a 1/4th part in a mild fire. Then the kashaya is filtered and used.

- Vatarakta (Guot)
- Kushta (Skin diseases)
- Pama (Variety of skin disease)
- Rakta mandala ((Variety of skin disease with rediish circular lesions)
- Kapalika kushta ((Variety of skin disease)
Mode of use:
Navakarshika Kashaya is administered internally 15 ml to 30 ml as general dose or as directed by the physician.
