Adityapaka Thailam

Adityapaka Thailam or Adityapaka Thaila is also known as Surya Paka Thaila. It is an ayurvedic medicated oil used in treating skin diseases. Here Aditya means ‘SUN‘ and Paka means the ‘Process‘.

Most of the oil preparations mentioned in ayurveda are prepared with the help of fire. In Adityapaka Thailam the oil preparation is not prepared by using fire instead it is prepared by direct exposing the ingredients along with oil to the Sun for a specific period.

Ingredients of Adityapaka Thailam

Kalka Dravya (Materials to make the paste)

  1. Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia)
  2. Triphala
    1. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
    2. Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica)
    3. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis)
  3. Laksha (Laccifer lacca)
  4. Nisha/Haridra (Curcuma longa)
  5. Shila/Manahshila (Realgar-Arsenic disulphide)
  6. Aala/Haratala (Orpiment-Arsenic trisulphide)
  7. Gandhaka (Sulphur)

Sneha Dravya (Oil substance) :

  1. Thila thaila (Sesame Oil)

Drava Dravya (Liquid material) :

  1. Jala (Water)

Preparation of Adityapaka Thailam

All the ingredients mentioned to prepare the paste should be taken 12 gms (1 tola) each and should be mixed with 4 times of Oil. To this mixture, water is added in the equal quantity of oil.

This is kept out exposing to the sun till the watery portion gets evaporated completely. Then the oil is filtered and used.

Adityapaka Thailam is used as an external application.
